We Hate Waste!!
At Sit Back & Relax we have a core environmental belief that companies should wherever possible choose products and production methods that protect the environment and minimise waste whilst providing the greatest possibility of recycling and renewal.
Every day we take a number of positive environmental steps to not only minimise our impact on the environment but to protect and nurture the world we live in today and into the future.
Here are examples of the positive steps we have already taken:
Vehicle Emissions.
We acknowledge that the use of our company vehicles directly contributes to the impact associated with CO2 emissions. Therefore we balance our Carbon Dioxide emissions through the purchase of Carbon Credits that neutralize our carbon footprint through the New South Wales Greenhouse Abatement Certificate.
The New South Wales Greenhouse Abatement Certificate (NGAC) certification process is comprehensive. It includes Kyoto Protocol measures, but goes beyond these. In summary the NGAC certification process ensures the following:
That each NGAC represents one tonne of carbon dioxide stored for at least 100 years in trees.
That the trees have been planted since 1990.
That the trees weren't planted on old growth forest cleared land (the land must have been clear prior to 1990).
That should the tree from which your carbon credit came come to any harm within 100 years of your purchase eg. Fire, disease, logging; that carbon credit will be replaced immediately from another source.

Paper Usage & Recycling
Wherever possible Sit Back & Relax seeks to internally recycle our day to day usage of paper and cardboard.
We avoid the use of brochures for our ranges through the comprehensive listing of all our products, details, specifications and pricing through our websites. We encourage our clients to use this resource and offer the opportunity to receive brochures if requested.
Sit Back & Relax recycles 99% of all used paper used within the organisation through the use of external recycling companies. Sit Back & Relax opposes the use of non recyclable plastic bags in the retail environment. All bags used through our stores are paper based.

Waste Management.
All our glass bottles, plastic waste and cardboard is disposed of through local council waste recycling programs. This includes any useable waste such as foam, office equipment, cardboard boxes and computer parts that are given to a not for profit organisation called Reverse Garbage. Their customers include teachers and students (from primary and secondary schools, TAFEs and universities), artists, community groups, window dressers and small and home-based businesses.

Energy Consumption.
We seek to minimize our energy consumption in our stores at all times. This includes individual light switches that are switched off when not in use, minimal consumption of hot water, energy saving modes on computers and switching off of all lights and non essential computers at the end of the work day.

At Sit Back & Relax we seek to partner with manufacturers that have strong environmental policies and strict recycling codes. This includes:
Recycling of seating parts.
Use of foam products that are manufactured CFC free; zero emission and zero free isocynate.
Usage of environmentaly friendly water based glues.
Use of sustainable and certified fabrics.
Wherever possible we encourage the use of sustainable fabrics for use in our seating ranges. Ranges for example that are certified under the Australian Ecolabel program provide a benchmark in sustainable production and recycling of fabrics.
